Mahogany

Diana Ross was born in Detroit's North End in March 1944.  Moving to the Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects on St. Antoine in the 1950's, Ross saw firsthand the changes the Black Bottom and Paradise Valley neighborhoods were going through.  A graduate of Cass Technical High School, Diana initially had hopes of entering the fashion industry.  But the gods had much greater plans for this Detroit native.  From the Supremes to her solo career, one work of art that continues to resonate with many is the role she played in Berry Gordy's 1975 film Mahogany.

In it, Tracey Chambers dreams of becoming a fashion designer as she works her way up the corporate ladder at a high-end department store(ala Marshall Fields). With corporate America telling her she couldn't make it, it was the encouragement of her dear Aunt which gave her the strength to show her works to prospective buyers.  And just like that - Tracey becomes a fashion icon.

SCP pays homage to Diana Ross with the debut of our latest Harmonie Blend: Mahogany. Crafted using coffee from two Black producers, we have combined a Mundo Nova varietal from the Peixoto Family and a Red Bourbon from our partners at Kalico to create a rich cup profile full of dates, fruit preserve, almonds and ruby chocolate. Now if that isn't " The Boss" then we don't know what is.
